Annaliese Soros Educational Residency Program

YCA artists are eager to engage with your community!

As a part of Young Concert Artists’ mission to launch the careers of young artists, YCA artists engage in residency activities, which are essential to their professional development.

YCA artists participate in career workshops designed to help them refine their residency planning, which allows them to tell their own story, while preparing interactive, dynamic, and inspirational programming suited for audiences of all ages and students of all levels.

Activities include (but are not limited to):

Performance/Talks – The artist performs a short program, drawing connections between pieces, while familiarizing the audience with new musical concepts, often providing listening challenges and question and answer sessions.

Masterclasses – The artist listens to students’ prepared pieces, and works closely with each student, providing feedback.

Coaching – The artist listens to chamber groups’ prepared pieces, and works closely with each group, providing feedback.

Working with student orchestras – Frequently accompanying a concerto performance with the orchestra, the artist will provide feedback similar to coaching sessions, but in a larger orchestral setting.

Since YCA artists are often close in age to their student audiences, they can create a unique connection and are effective peer role models.

Our young musicians are also delighted to meet with your organization’s friends and patrons at receptions and specially planned events, and in more informal settings with student groups or at coffee hours.

What better way to hear classical music, possibly for the first time, than by encountering a young artist who is passionate about music, devoted to excellence, accomplished in their craft, and refined in their artistry?

What can YCA do for your school?

YCA believes that a lifelong love of music ignites curiosity in math, science, culture, and language. We are committed to enriching students’ lives through music and dedicated to making classical music tangible to students from all communities. YCA introduces some of the greatest young talents in our city to schools in all boroughs with tailored lesson plans, online instruction, and follow up visits.

“Young Concert Artists, the non-profit management that may well have invented the mini-residency 25 years ago, has helped to nurture a generation of artists who are better prepared for work in the community. Their residencies are well organized and wide ranging.”
